Outstanding
vintage yidakis and didgeridoos are often hard to find because a
good instrument would have been well used in ceremony and for the
Aboriginal communities. Such instruments would often deteriorate
through repeated use and by virtue of the fact that an Aborigine
habitually primes the didgeridoo with water in order to get the
best sound from the instrument. The wet and dry cycles tend to lead
to cracks formating. An Aboriginal repair would include the rubbing
of sugarbag in to the cracks and, or wrapping insulation tape around
the yidaki or mago. Sometimes the whole didgeridoo would be encased
in tape until eventually the instrument was discarded and replaced
with another.
An old instrument is full of character and rich story, each specimen
offered here is special in its own way and some of the rarities
we have sold are museum quality pieces.
